Canto Three

Babylon Dogs

– from Ten Poems.

If it matters to you
at all,
I am not angry.
I am not expecting an apology.

I am the weight
that bore down on you
all these years.
You’re a strong woman
but let’s face it:

I know your reasons.
They are good ones.
Reasonable.

I will do my part
to not drown in regret.
Please do your part
to forever recall
how bad I was for you,
how my deadweight
steadily
increasingly
diminished you.
